GREEN TEA EGCG INCREASES CELL'S NATURAL ANTIOXIDANTS IN STUDY
We have known for a long time that EGCG, abundant in green
tea, is an antioxidant. But it has been difficult to explain its great
effectiveness when it is present in such small concentrations inside the
cell. A study reported in Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics offers
a plausible answer. The study suggests that EGCG may work as a signal
molecule, signaling increased production of the cell's natural antioxidants.
It is possible that EGCG is a very effective antioxidant because it plays a
dual role once inside the cell: direct antioxidant and signal molecule
increasing the cell's natural antioxidant production. Certainly more
work is needed before we know for sure. drpaulsupdates.org
