CIGARETTE SMOKING, TEA DRINKING AND PARKINSON'S DISEASE ONSET
To use the three words-healthy, smoking and tea-in the same
sentence seems almost sacrilegious. Yet, a recent study reported in
Parkinsonism & Related Disorders suggests the possibility that
both tea drinking and smoking cigarettes have one healthy attribute in
common. Both may delay the onset of Parkinson's disease (PD). PD is a
nervous system disease that makes the patient less able to move as the
disease progresses. PD incidence increases after age 50 and preliminary
evidence suggests a risk increase with pesticide exposure. Although this
study is of interest to many health-minded individuals, it certainly does
not recommend either drinking tea or smoking cigarettes to delay PD. drpaulsupdates.org
