WILL GREEN TEA REDUCE OBESITY?
A few studies over the years have suggested that tea, especially oolong tea, can help reduce obesity. The following is one of the more recent studies examining if green tea helps reduces obesity.
Note: Three primary indicators for weight loss include reduction of body weight (BW), reduction in body mass index (BMI) and reduced waist circumflex (WC).
Effect of green tea extract on obese women: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial.

This randomized, double-blind study was conducted with 100 obese women in Taiwan and was conducted for 12 weeks. Participants were given either green tea extract (GTE) or a placebo. The investigators conclude that there was:
"no statistical difference in % reduction in BW, BMI and WC between the GTE and placebo groups after 12weeks of treatment."
Nevertheless the investigators also conclude that the:
"intake of GTE (491mg catechins containing 302mg EGCG) for 12weeks is considered safe..."
