ARE GREEN TEA POLYPHENOLS PROTECTIVE AGAINST RADIATION DAMAGE?
Gamma radiation exposure occurs with X-rays, CT Scans, radiation therapy and nuclear explosions. Gamma radiation exposure often causes genetic damage and is a likely cause of cancer. Any agent capable of reducing genetic damage subsequent to radiation exposure may would be welcome to anyone exposed to gamma rays.

The study examined the possible protective effect of green tea polyphenols (GTPs) in combination and as separate catechins in the jejunal crypt cells of mice irradiated with gamma-ray.
The investigators concluded that:
"GT and GTPs may have a major radioprotective effect."
In addition, the investigators suggested that a mixture of GTPs may be more effective than individual catechins acting alone.
